That warm place with no memory.
Through the expressive and formal language of painting and drawing, my art practice explores the messy, imperfect, transitory and ultimately beautiful struggle to find what exists in the space between our thoughts. A self-dialogue transpires where, when we truly listen, we can learn about selflessness from our ego, strength from our vulnerabilities, and compassion from our judgements.
My process builds upon overlaying various elements intent on finding the strength in their differences. I start by creating a visual cacophony of marks and colors and then I work towards simplifing the convoluted and beautifying the unpleasant—always searching for a peaceful resolution. Dynamic compositions combine veiled layers of sweeping lines and rounded shapes. Introverted neutrals are juxtaposed with more extroverted hues; the brush strokes are hurried and raw. The outcome of each piece must be alluring without concealing the conflict that lead there. Authenticity and serendipity are sought and mistakes are not hidden, rather they help reveal the path forward.
